Sparrows - Chicago Botanic Gardens
Confusing sparrows again... took these at the Chicago Botanic Gardens this morning.
First two pictures show the same individual. Tree Sparrow? Pictures three and four show bird number two. Juv. White-Crowned? Fifth picture is bird No.3. Swamp Sparrow? White-throated? Sorry for the obstacles. The little guy wasn't very cooperative. Thanks in advance. Misha Last edited by Blaumeise : Monday 22nd October 2007 at 03:33. |

I'll take a stab at these. I think the first four are all white-crowns- look at the head shape in the second photo.
Agree with swamp for #5- gray face and rufous wing patch. The bird in the second post is a classic tree sparrow- spot on the chest, red and gray on the face, reddish in the wings, bicolored bill. |

Oh my yes! The white-throat is a white crowned and I am pink-faced.
Scott p.s. After work today I got to see adults of both species and immature white-crowns all in the same bush. |
