... or a bit of the Nictating membrane anyway.
Had a wander along the river one day in November and was lucky to find this guy on a rock in the middle of the river, so a bit closer than normal and in better light too.
During the excitement of watching the Great Egret (he delighted us for ages), this Moorhen swam past the hide, in beautifully calm water.
It would have been disrespectful not to take his picture, wouldn't it?
Although not a Lifer, as I'd seen one some 10 years before in Lithuania, this is my first picture in the Gallery, it was a first for Kinnordy and, I believe, a first for Angus (not sure about Scotland).
Someone had reported it a day or two before and it stayed around for a couple of days...
Early November and Kinnordy had more Snipe than I've ever seen there before - I think someone counted over 100, which means there were probably many more in hiding.
This is just a small sample of them with some friends.
They were on one of the bog bean islands, so a little distant for a small...
Having walked along the river and not seen or even heard much, returning to the start there was a Dipper on the far side, unfortunately under the overhanging branches, so a bit dark.
I needed to do a bit of pp to get the picture suitable to show you.
I love Dippers!
For those that know me, you'll understand how pleased I was to get this picture!! Seen loads of them over the years, but the previous cameras I had were useless at getting images of these guys... my favourite woodland bird.
I finally got a picture about this time last year, but it wasn't worthy...
This was a small group that had just arrived at Kinnordy to spend the winter with us.
I love these swans.
I'd taken a long series of images of them flying across and landing; this was the best of them. Shame they landed right on the far side of the loch though.
Is this what is known as a "photo bomb" LOL.
Trying to get a picture showing my rare Goldfinch visitor, I was delighted to get a Coal Tit in flight as well... my first decent image of a flying one.
He did join the goldie on the feeder, but I preferred this arrival image.
I don't...
The purple patch during the end of September/early October continued.
I couldn't quite make out what this was sitting high in the tree, but knew it was different to my normal birds. The picture revealed all.
Sadly he didn't hang around and this was the only pose I managed to get.

When this guy come to the window, I noticed lots of bits dropping from his bill, so got snapping.
OK some of the bits in the picture are on the window (mostly from an earlier visit when it was raining) but that big dollop to the left is what he spat out, along with the white bits under his...
I often do an afternoon health-walk round the town but don't usually take my camera (if I did I probably wouldn't walk very far LOL). However that day it somehow jumped into my hands as I left the house.
Spotted these two flying across and they settled in a tree. Apart from knowing they were...
For a couple of days this Goldfinch made repeated visits to the window feeder, so you may get another picture even yet!!;)
Such a joy to see them.

... a juvenile Goldfinch. Not sure that I've seen one in the garden before.
There was obviously a passage of a mixed flock of finches and thrushes moving round they only stayed for a few days, so if I'd been away I'd have missed them.
I wonder why they don't stay through the winter though...
When the Siskin came in a few days before, I was on high alert and sure enough this beautiful Goldfinch arrived.
I only ever seem to see these for a day or two in the autumn, such a shame they don't hang around through the year. There was a young one who stayed and made occasional visits for...
It's always nice to see these guys swimming across the water especially when they're within reach of my lens LOL.
Had to lighten this one quite a bit, but at last got to see where the eye is;)
Seems I need to do some work on understanding the settings in bright sun, but not sure when I'll get...
Really had to lighten this one, which now allows me to see that the two ducks (which were completely silhouetted initially) are Gadwall! At least, I think so, judging by the white wing flash.

Because the sun was in my eyes, I'm not too sure I realised this was a Gadwall at the time LOL!
Another where I've had to crop a bit tight to remove some oof foliage on the left. Actually I think my problems might be solved if I grew a few inches!!;)

It was getting towards the end of the Osprey season at Kinnordy, and you have to make the most of the opportunities before they leave.
This one actually had a successful dive, but I messed up the two images when he flew off with his prize.
He was quite distant across the far side of the loch...
.... and this was the result of the previous picture.
You can just make out the splash of water as he landed. But afraid I couldn't make out if he caught a fish on that dive.

Went back to Kinnordy to try again.
I love seeing this flight pose that Ospreys do. Sadly, i think I may have cropped a bit too much, as it's lost the little sharpness that it had. Oh well, he was quite distant.

Got him!!!
Seconds after this he gave me 'the look' and was away.
It's so difficult getting these guys, they're so nervous and seem to be able to see me moving from right at the back of my sitting room!

Snow's all gone fortunately!
It really was a good day for observing hunting raptors!! The best I've ever had.
Although I missed the moment when this Osprey splashed down, I did get my first ever half-decent image of one carrying his catch away... only just got him in the frame though LOL.
Any fish id'ers out there?
