    Rock N' Robin

I placed this rock behind my daughters property near the edge of the woods...She said "what have you put that there for?" I said "For birds to use as a perch". She said "Dont be silly, you wont get any birds on there"...I think the total count was six or seven...

Here, let me pose for you.

This robin was busy gobbling down some wild cherries. I was able to get several shots with him holding them in his mouth, and even swallowing, but this one is almost like he noticed me focusing on him, and decided to give me a proper look.

    Got any snacks?

Robins are Michigan's state bird. We have millions of them here. Most Michiganders attribute the first Robin siting of the year as a sign of spring, but they (Robins) sometimes never migrate south during the winter. This is perhaps the plumpest one I have ever seen.

The berries are getting hard to find on the trees now but I did see a flock of about 100 searching for more this morning in time for the Great Backyard Bird Count.

    If only....

.... Robins meant Spring was here. 8 hours of no power or heat in an ice storm is no fun.

Sorry I haven't been around much. We've had over 500 robins in our neighborhood for the past three days. By the third day most of the berries had been eaten off the trees so the robins started eating the berries that had fallen on the ground. I loved having so many birds here but they kept...

Robins are common sights year round but the larger flocks should soon arrive to eat the red berries on the toyon trees. This male and a female are the first arrivals.

    A young Robin

An American icon and the harbinger of spring. I think it looks a lot like the fieldfare. When observed here it is rare but usually with the robin.
