Hi Folks;
Little nippy for me to hang out in the garden today so I took this little male Anna's Hummingbird from my archives that was captured in our garden under sunny blue skies in the past.
One of many hummers that sit on the branches which we have attached to our upper deck railing. These birds are so used to me standing next to them that they don't even pay attention to me anymore.
These hummers just love to sit near me as I take photos from my decks. This one was less than 4 feet away and let me snap 40 photos before she....well look at the next photo. The lake (in the background) was gray from the fog.
I was out trying my new lens with a tc when this young male landed near me. They do love to sit on the branches we've attached to the deck. This guy is just starting to get the color in his gorget.
Hi Folks;
Captured this little Male Anna's Humingbird from about twice my usual distance early this morning under vivid blue sunny skies, 80F. Fill flash assist and square crop.
Hi Folks;
Another little male Anna's Hummingbird, maybe the same one from our garden in yesterdays post? The lovely weather, 84F with clear blue sunny skies has them moving around performing acrobatics in pairs.
Since the hawks are still chasing away most of the smaller birds I decided to play with my hummers. These little guys and gals aren't a bit afraid of the raptors or me for that matter.
We pick up fallen tree branches on our morning walks around the neighborhood and attach them to our deck railings. Hanging the hummer feeders close to these branches gives the birds a chance to rest and me a chance to take a few photos.
There so many of these, as the migration period is in full swing. They dispute the stations at the feeders, and it gets nasty at times. At it's most frenetic, they will actually collide, and a sharp snap can be heard as they make contact wing-to-wing. Bent feathers are not uncommon.
A first for me, this little hummingbird has no tail at all and it looks like it never has had one. It doesn't seem to know it's any different as it can fly just fine and has no problem competing for a spot on the feeder perch.
