Bird was in the ideal light for this image, yet a little fill-in-flash added some highlights to the edges of the feathers.

I wasn't happy with the fence in the background but the hummingbirds really love my gladiolas that I planted last fall.

This little male sure looked proud of himself after he'd chased another hummingbird from this perch.

More and more of these are begining to stake-out feeders. Note the varying colors in the gorget. Taken in late evening with side lighting and fill-in-flash.

Obviously this is renered with a flahs gun. However, there are reasons for it's use in this image. The BG would have been too bright. So, the camera is compensated with a -2/3 stop, while the flash is compensated at +1/3 stop. the result is that the camera will under expose the BG, while the...

Note some of the feathers of the 'remiges' are missing. Any of you who have heard hummingbirds are familiar with the characteristic sounds they make. However, with feathers missing, the sound will change: anywhere from a soft 'brrrrrrrr', to a stacato 'twrrrrr'.

Contemplating whether or no to got to the feeder and tank up.

Preening. Probably needs to; it was a long flight from where ever he came from.

They are starting to migrate through, now.
