apostlebird

Wandering the campsite, trying to get directions to the waterhole (turned out in the end it was dry!), I spotted a single Apostlebird (they're supposed to hang out in groups of around a dozen, hence the name). Never saw the rest, so seems he may have been ousted LOL

Back outside, there was a singleton Apostlebird... no idea where his 11 pals were. I think this was the first I'd seen since we left Bowra a couple of weeks before.

....or Baker's Dozen perhaps. This was the only time I saw so many of them together... I'd counted every group and never came up with 12, let alone 13.

.... Luke and John!! I was still looking for the 12 Apostles, but this morning at the Back Dam there were just four of them.

A couple of Apostlebirds arrived in the garden, rather a surprised as I really wasn't expecting them LOL. It did take me some time to actually find a large group holding about 12-13 of them. But I'll sure take a starter for 2!

In fact the whole extended family was giving this youngster a bit of a touch up for some reason .

One flock of exactly 10 comes to our backyard almost every day,used to be 12.

Apostlebirds are gorgeous - they are extremely sociable and cuddle together a lot - the whole community shares in feeding and raising the young.

Apostlebirds are delightful. They are highly communal, and can be seen cuddling together on branches.

These birds move around in a flock and really like getting close to each other, as you can see in this photo.

The Apostlebird is relatively tame and often can be seen foraging on the ground in groups.
