aquila gurneyi

  1. Gurney's Eagle

    Gurney's Eagle

A very distant record shot of this rare eagle. Note the long rounded tail which helps separate it from the Wedge-tailed Eagle. Listed as "near threatened", it is seldom encountered by ornithologists and its biology is largely unknown. Endemic to West Papuan Islands and New Guinea.
  2. Gurney's eagle (Aquila gurneyi)

    Gurney's eagle (Aquila gurneyi)

Usually this species is seen flying high but this time we were lucky to find a pair feeding, pancaked and flew to the closest tree for us to enjoy their majestic look.
