Not that artic terns were not present. They were all over the place. Just that I did not realise I had a decent enough shot of them. Pays to revisit old snaps.
My happy moment on yesterday's walk was when I noticed this Arctic Tern looping over and over up along the river, apparently hunting for insects emerging from their chrysalis state in the water. I got loads of shots, about half of them in decent focus. This one's my favorite. Again, not up to...
Whilst waiting for the boat back to the mainland, I spent some time watching this Arctic Tern preening on some rocks covered in Ulva species seaweed beside the jetty.
This chick kept wandering into the carpark with its frantic parent trying to drive us away! In fact I wonder if it's the same one Flyshop photographed in June (in Opus)!!
Arctic Terns are known to fly from pole to pole. These two birds were having a debate over a third bird... I photographed these during a recent trip to Norway for a bird study that i conducted for a client.
