A pair of these birds were chasing and harassing the Sandwich terns for their catch
  2. Black Guillemot off Fort George

    Black Guillemot off Fort George

Every time I visit my mother in Ardersier, I walk around the shoreline at Fort George, weather and tides permitting, this was a cold, windy but sunny morning and two birds kept appearing near the shore, I didn't know at the time what they were, I just caught this one popping up behind a wave crest.

    Ardersier - Arctic Skua overhead.jpg

I'd had a "moment" when I watched what I thought was a dark tern among all the other Terns, then it almost flew into me while chasing a tern with a catch!
  4. Turn, Tern, Turn

    Turn, Tern, Turn

This Tern would not turn for me ..... did eventually of course. Walking along Ardersier shore, Highland, Scotland
  5. Unusual buddies

    Unusual buddies

The back shore here often has Red-breasted Merganser roosting but this young Eider wandered into the sea as I got too close. They swam away together, maybe just safety in numbers?

Hooded Crow going about its business - no crop

This Hooded crow landed on the beach in front of me then started strolling along the shoreline towards me as if I wasn't there! Strolled right by me. They're usually super shy when I've encountered them before but this was fabulous to watch.

Flocking birds - Bar Tailed Godwit and Knot

This flock swept past me a few times, I actually managed to grab a few decent shots. I've titled Bar tailed Godwit and Knot? The red bird looked different but, just summer plumage?
  11. Red Breasted Merganser pair on the beach

Red Breasted Merganser pair on the beach

I've eventually learned to take my time rounding the corner behind the fort, not charging round and scaring everything off! I watched the male merganser haul out of the sea and walk up the beach to the female.

    Little or Black headed?

Good morning all. Up visiting the folks at the weekend and spotted these along the shore next to Fort George, Ardersier. It's only now editing the photos I wondered are they Little or Black Headed gulls, adult and youngster? I notice the two younger birds have yellow on the beaks. Thanks all.

    Female looking angry through gorse

17th April 2022 in gorse near Ardersier, I grabbed a few shots of this bird staring at me through the bushes, it's the side shots that look like it's a female Linnet?

    The Odd Couple

I've been going up to Ardersier for a few years now and most mornings I'm up and away along the shore with a camera, see what there is to be seen. I've quite often seen a lone Hooded Crow on the shoreline picking around but, it's very wary and usually flies off when I get closer or, it's too...

Bottle nosed dolphin - Long range levitation

Walking and watching from the other side. Many people gather at Chanonry Point to watch these dolphins perform, the beach can get quite mobbed. I walk on the shore opposite, around Fort George where they often pop up close to shore, this one wasn't ;)

    Young bird debate

Hi all, I grabbed a few quick shots of a wee bird over the weekend and it was only when I got them on the 'pooter that I realised I wasn't sure what it is so, I posted to a couple of FB groups, which set off a bit of a debate. What do you think? What is it? After some research, I was thinking a...
