    Another of my archive pictures, this time from 2003. An early December walk along Broughty Ferry beach, these wee chaps were so confiding, they really let me get quite close to them. This still remains one of the best pictures I've got of this species.

    At minimum tide you can see how densely the mudflats at Yatsu Higata are strewn with empty shells left by the feasting birds. This poor stoneturner was looking for leftovers, without much luck. But the tide was just about to turn. A couple hours later there was a whole flock of stoneturners...
