I spotted this long-eared owl from my front room sofa (!). The windows face a cul-de-sac which is a very quiet alley in a small-town environment. It was there for two days only. This photo was taken on a cold and frosty morning, the owl roosting in the first soft rays of light. Peaceful.

The Northern Long-eared Owl is one of only 2 Asio species seen in North America, and is not often seen during the day. It hunts for rodents in open areas (here on a fence post near a pasture) and usually remains well concealed during daylight hours.
