This shot was taken a few seconds before the one I posted two days ago under the title'pas de deux'.It shows how the stilt tried to make the avocet go away by swooping down over its head repeatedly.The avocet would then crouch low down and/or step forward to avoid being hit.A juvenile stilt was...
Anyone would think these two birds are in unison as they step lightly, side by side. But, in fact, the stilt was trying to make the avocet keep away from the bank where a juvenile stilt was wading, apparently unaware of what was going on.
Tension was running high among the Avocets at Minsmee on Sunday with plenty of minor skirmishes breaking out. I guess it is always the same in the breeding season. Ron
