It was quite far away so heavily cropped. I posted it as a Forest Kingfisher. Ken kindly corrected me, I really must learn to read !!! 0945

Always a delight to find one of these guys.

Just back from a week spent around Noosa in Queensland, including a half day tour on the Noosa River. One of our most exciting finds was this Azure Kingfisher, of which we have only seen once before.

On entry this Kingfisher is completely enveloped by water splashing up around it .

Although not a good shot, too much reflection from the water droplets and a tad out of focus I believe this encapsulates the essence of this exit from the lake.

Not the best of captures but these birds are so fast !!

Was invited by Hans Beste to one of his favourite places today to try and get a few shots of this Kingfisher which had been alluding me . Many thanks Hans , a great day, A public holiday for me and I got paid for it LOL , Life is hard !!

I'll hide behind this branch

First time in the field with my new Gitzo G1560. I like it :) Might be more difficult to photograph birds that aren't at eye level but it was just perfect for this kingfisher. This shot was at 1/25 which I would never have gotten off hand-held.

My favourite kingfisher, revisited this spot 4 times on my trip trying to get a good photo.
