From it's coloring this young eagle appears to be a 2nd year bird. It was standing on the ice shelf in the river and added to my sightings at the Power Plant yesterday.
I stopped at the Alliant dam in Prarie du Sac on the way to work. it was sleeting and the light was not the best but the eagles don't mind.
its the annual "eagle days" event in Saulk Prarie if anyone is in the area and interested.

This eagle was eating a fish as it flew back and forth past our home. Normally there's a hawk that tries to steal the fish but this time it was a young gull which I couldn't get in the photo.
The eagle dropped the last of his fish. You can see the fish tail (to the right of the eagle) falling with him. I couldn't see if he finally caught it or not but a gull went down with him and would have finished it up if he didn't. The white spots in the photo are ducks.
This red-tailed hawk refused to stop harassing the eagle. Neither one of them had any food in their talons. I'm guessing it was just a territory dispute.
This is a terrible photo but I just had to share this entertaining moment with you. The eagles are here almost year round and their acrobatic moves in flight always entertain us. In this case, I think the eagle had just tried to catch a fish or duck and missed but apparently the hawk thought...
We had four eagles flying past our home all day long yesterday as they grabbed fish and ducks out of the lake for a meal. I was happy for the gray skies when I got this photo since the poor duck was the meal this time.
The Eagle managed to scare the Osprey into dropping the fish; the Eagle caught it, but could not hang on--note the falling fish carcass.
The Bald Eagle is pretty fast for a big bird; rather than risk getting hit by the big guy the Osprey dropped "the goods."
Getting to be closer to eagle season here.
We usually get a number of wintering eagles in our area. Hoping that there will be a good number wintering here this year.
Last year was a big year for juvi's. I counted at least 17 in one place last year, all juvi's.
Saw this one a couple of days ago...
I think that this is the best Bald Eagle shot that I have taken yet. A direct flyover of an animal with a seven foot wingspan is always awesome to experience!
Its feathers are longer than mom and dad's, which gives it "training wheels" for a while :-) .
