I have never seen so many eagles in one tree. The guy responsible for the come back of the Bald Eagle in New England told me that they are probably staging in this area to head north--mostly juvies or "immies" as he calls them.
We thought that the wintering juvi eagles had left our area as the ice started to melt but they are still hanging around but have moved up river a bait. Thanks to Curt who also post on this site for discovering their new hangout.
Yesterday came across a group of 12 juvi's doing some...
Taken from our back deck, the eagles continue to fly back and forth past us. Yesterday a juvenile made several passes showing off his catch in his talons-not a photo I care to share.
Not that great of a capture but I loved the look of determination on this eagle as it flew by me. Actually it was just trying to get away from a pesty younger eagle that had been chasing it.
We were sitting at the table looking out the window when two adult eagles came flying by us. They have a favorite pine tree closeby and normally land there to watch the waterfowl on the lake but this time one of them landed on top of a pine just below our home. I'm sure you all must have heard...
Photographed from my back deck, these juveniles, along with two other adults, really put on a show for me for most of the morning. It's so thrilling when they wrestle in the air over our lake.

Another shot this morning of the juvi eagle I posted the other day. The bird had both a red leg band (meaning banded in Maine) and a silver federal leg band. I was able to read the red band and sent the info in to the USGS. they responded with a nice certificate with info about the bird.
I turns...
Watched about 20 eagles, some year round residents and some wintering the other day, the group I was watching was almost all juvi's of various years. This one looks like maybe a 2nd year bird. He was just coming up from an unsuccessful pass at a fish.
I love the camouflage of these your eagles. Their color is perfect for stayinging hidden in trees and against a cliff-edge backdrop. The adults on the other hand have perfect camo for sitting in snow-covered trees; you often can't tell if their heads or tails are clumps of snow.
Got this one from my back deck. There are three eagles that continue to give me photo ops almost every day. Sorry about the duck but I have to remember this is what nature is all about. The eagles love to show off their catches and screech continuously, I'm guessing they're telling others...
We were driving along the road and watching the geese in the marsh when we heard an eagle screeching so loud that it sounded like it was on top of our car. Sure enough, we looked up and there it sat on a branch just above us. It continued to screech as I took photos and it turned out the eagle...
Quick post today and then off to meet my Thursday morning birding group. Will catch up on my comments this afternoon.
Had 4 juvi and 2 adults at the local power plant. The juvi's were all in this one tree and just taking flights out over the open water and then back to the tree as if to say...
