When changing flights in Copenhagen (which tends to be the case on many of my trips abroad), I like to book a long layover, long enough that if I've packed smart, with only my camera backpack and maybe a purse to carry, then I can leave the airport and spend a few hours at the wildlife preserve...
But for some more "Saturday fun shots", I think this may be the last day I post shots from my day on Djurgrden. I need to move on. Today, for instance, I captured a whole series of a pair of wagtails' mating ritual and consummation. Fascinating! Hopefully, the shots turned out well. Haven't...
'Fraid I took quite a few shots of the barnacle geese. Also, they didn't spook easily, stayed quite close, and it was a sunny day, so a lot of them came out well. I'll try to intersperse one or two shots among shots of other birds when I post. Hope you enjoy them and don't get bored.
Woops! Time has flown today. Was busy working. And tomorrow will be a long work day. Will post 3 quick ones now, then not again until I've caught up on browsing - hopefully Wednesday morning before flying home.
Was at first surprised, then just happy to see barnacle geese in Stockholm. Thought...

The geese were right beside the trail. I stopped some distance away and got one decent shot of them grazing on the marsh, but I eventually I had to keep walking along the trail and just 2 steps closer they spooked and flew off. Eventually, the trail led to a road, which led to the shore, and...
Stuck at Copenhagen Airport (Kastrup) for a few hours? Here's what to do: Check your hand luggage at the left luggage office at terminal 2. Buy a train ticket at terminal 3. Take the train two stops, exit the train station and cross the road to take bus 33. Take the bus at least 2 stops, then...

If I hadn't seen this with my own eyes, I just wouldn't have believed it. My friend and I paid our first visit to Musselburgh Lagoons back in '05 and had a great day.
On the far side of the lagoon were 3 Barnacle Geese with Crows and a Jackdaw. One of the Crows decided he didn't like the...
Capturing dense flocks of geese in the air is easy enough but as they begin to land the ranks break up and spread out and chaos begins. I was after a shot that showed the chaos in some way but which still retained a good focus on all the birds. This is one of my favourites.
Although I got to see quite a large flock of geese at relatively short distance the majority of them fed in fields behind the reserve and could not be seen. Ever so often you would hear the roar as they all put up in the skies at once. Thousands upon thousands of birds. I really should have had...
As the day here is so grey with heavy rain I thought I would post this shot that reflects it. Taken towards the end of the day when the mist was coming down and the light no longer so good.
