The Batten Kill River can be deep or shallow in the summer enough for a person to walk around in. The area I walked in was really shallow and then I heard a Belted Kingfisher call and got a few pictures of it on a dead tree branch across the river. That was the first ever time I've seen a Belted...
A lifer for me - this male barred owl first arrived at my local wetlands sometime in July, and I was able to photograph it several times behind leaves, branches, and fronds. Finally, after my 4th encounter with him, he was perched very much in the open, just 15 feet away, allowing me to get an...
A lifer for me - This barred owl spent a week or so hanging out at my local wetlands and was the first time one had been spotted there. Probably a youngster, out exploring - there was a known nest about 8 miles away to the west, so this one might have been one of the juveniles out exploring...
I've seen this Barred Owl twice this week while on my morning runs; the second time I was able to call my wife to bring down the kids and camera. She took a series of photos and while I'd liked to have adjusted the settings more, I'll settle for this photo! Hope to keep seeing him in the future!

Wood burning piece I did of a Barred Owl who works as an education bird and foster mom at a local raptor center.
Hello there! My family and I have lived in a wooded area that homes many barred owls. This year, we've taken a liking to a particular one, who we've nicknamed "Junior".
This is a shot I got of him:
Junior is smaller than the other owls we've seen and doesn't fly very often or far. He...
Many people believe owls are strictly nocturnal. But this beautiful Barred Owl was actively hunting yesterday morning at 9:00 AM and was kind enough to allow me a few good shots before it decided to fly off.
And here's a funny tip that isn't very well-known: If you are watching or photographing...
This is the larger of two Barred Owls we have. They have a couple of perches overlooking our pond. We watched the larger one (I'm assuming the female), get a muskrat that probably weighed more than she does, and fly back to the nest not too far from where she is here.
This Barred Owl caused quite a stir along the boardwalk of the Hellcat Interpretive Trail at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, Newburyport, Massachusetts.
