One of the most colourful and iconic barbets in East Africa, they're mostly found in lowland dry bush and savannah woodland. No messing about with the name here. Straight to the point :D

A very funky savannah bird that's commonly found in most Acacia thornbush and woodland areas in North-eastern and Eastern Africa. The name Go-away-bird has always fascinated me. :D

Carmine bee-eaters are the largest of their kind in Africa, and they are absolutely lovely! These bee-eaters are Afro-tropical migrants with some of them being resident in Kenya. They usually nest in colonies, excavating horizontal tunnels on steep river banks to keep them safe from predators.

First day out of the nest

Lucky enough to have a flock of Bee-eaters in the garden of the Finca we were staying at....

These Bee-eaters had just arrived in the Algarve, Portugal while we were on holiday there. The flock numbered about 30 and the sound of them amazing.

At Sanavastre, there is a big bee-eaters colony in an old mine pit of lignite coal. See the holes they use mixed with tree sparrow.
