We found this pipit by chance. We were on the hunt for rock sparrows and they played the song of a rock sparrow hoping to attract one in. There were none. But we found a very interested pipit instead.
Spent a week in Lanzarote, with some good early morning birding.
Berthelot's pipit was the most expected lifer, a widespread resident in many habitats from beaches to lava fields (although I've never seen one in the villages), often quite tame as most of Lanzarote's birds.
This was my first lifer in the Canary Islands weekend and the only one I had close enough for decent pics (decent for my standards, I mean! :-O)
Still, I'm quite happy with the bunch of views I got of this restless soul in different occasions, this is one of my favourites. A very mimetic little...
I'm not sure what these birds' habitat was. They were found around the site with its gardens but also in the arid areas outside.
This one is on a fence surrounding La Gomera Airport - one of the Wonders of the Modern World!
