    A curious pipit

We found this pipit by chance. We were on the hunt for rock sparrows and they played the song of a rock sparrow hoping to attract one in. There were none. But we found a very interested pipit instead.

    Berthelot's Pipit

Spent a week in Lanzarote, with some good early morning birding. Berthelot's pipit was the most expected lifer, a widespread resident in many habitats from beaches to lava fields (although I've never seen one in the villages), often quite tame as most of Lanzarote's birds.
  13. Berthelots Pipit

    Berthelots Pipit

This was my first lifer in the Canary Islands weekend and the only one I had close enough for decent pics (decent for my standards, I mean! :-O) Still, I'm quite happy with the bunch of views I got of this restless soul in different occasions, this is one of my favourites. A very mimetic little...

Of all the pictures I took of this bird, this one is my favourite.

Definitely the last three shots of this bird and the last ones from La Gomera.

Here's one with that nice blue sea behind.
  19. Two More Canary Pipits

    Two More Canary Pipits

The kind of bird I like. Not worried by people if it can maintain a safe distance, and with quite a short definition of 'safe distance'.

    Singing from on High

I'm not sure what these birds' habitat was. They were found around the site with its gardens but also in the arid areas outside. This one is on a fence surrounding La Gomera Airport - one of the Wonders of the Modern World!
  21. Anthus Berthelotii

    Anthus Berthelotii

There were several around the HPB site and I got to know their haunts. This wall by the cliff was one of the most likely spots.
  22. Berthelot's Pipit

    Berthelot's Pipit

La Gomera has very few bird species - which makes identification easy. If it's a Pipit then it's one of these Canarian Pipits.
