I said I'd explain how I got lucky with this yesterday:
I knew a Bittern was at the Reservoirs, as there's nearly always one seen at this time of year. The route I walk takes in the Stream where I'd expect a Bittern to be, but the recent snowfall meant I'd no chance of creeping up on anything...
We've been fortunate to have a number of Bitterns locally. We had 3 at this particular location last Saturday! A bit of a distant shot (oh, ok, a very distant shot ;)!), about 150-200 metres away, but still happy to get any kind of record of these birds.
as i knew the lake would be frozen over on saturday morning i though i better get there before sun up to ensure a good spot......
how wrong was i, not another person to be seen all morning......
do they know something i don't ?
after four hours sitting in -1degrees i was beginning to think they...
took this this morning at about 9am, thought the early morning sunlight on the reeds in the background makes a very welcome addition to this shot..........
I haven't taken any photographs for about three weeks, so here is one from the archives. Taken on a magical day earlier this year when we ended up with three Bitterns stalking about in front of the hide. This is full frame and uncropped. It was quite close! Ron
