Was hunting/eating something, but I'm not sure what.

This Black-crowned Night-Heron was a photographic lifer!

Along the boardwalk at Six Mile Slough.

True to its name this Black-crowned Night Heron flew in and started hunting just as the sun was setting.

This appears to be the same fellow I saw a couple days prior in the same spot though up in the tree. This time he was on the shore in a seemingly more typical "hunched" posture when I first saw it. There was a small swirl on the surface of the pond indicating a likely fish, which...

Juvenile

This bird was living the easy life at the hotel by fishing using bread as bait that was thrown into the various ponds in the grounds by guests feeding the fish. This was taken as it was chilling out after a large breakfast of four or five fish from the pool next to the restaurant.

This is a repost of black-crowned night-heron (juvenile), but zoomed in shot for better detail. Lost my background look but a better look at the subject.

This heron had just caught a small catfish.

Yet another Heron from that super hotel pond. Taken while I was having breakfast.

A juvie, and you can tell by the yellow on the bill, and if you were able to seem them, large white spots on the wing coverts. The Yellow-crowned has tiny white spots and a black bill. The adults are an easier ID.

I watched this standoff for quite awhile. The tiny gator did get to live another day.

A juvenile keeps its eye on the water and grass below in hopes of a little brunch.

My last post for a bit. On the road again.

Hi folks, Just got back from the New Jersey shore. While there was able to spend some time at E B Forsythe Wildlife Refuge near Atlantic City. There were several of this Night-herons present at the refuge as well as many other shorebirds.

Black-crowned Night-Heron wedging himself in a tree pond side. I wonder if think he thinks he's not seen because of the branch if front of him?

I saw this heron less frequently than I did the Yellow-crowned.
