I've been watching these night herons for three seasons now and it's always fun to see the new seasons young learning to catch fish and interact with the other birds. He was very proud of himself when he caught this fish. Neil.

Probably a second season bird. I was surprised at the orange legs and eye which are very different from a first year bird. He was having a shake in this digiscoped photo.
I got into the hide at Mai Po at 5.30am ( I stayed overnight at their facilities) and there were several night herons around in the dim early light. I took several photos but this was the only one where the bird stood still for long enough for the longish exposure of 1/6th of a second.
