The juveniles are practicising their flying skills around the nesting area.

He recovered quickly from his embarresment though.

Of course sometimes in his enthusiasm he over-balances and slips in.

I've been watching these night herons for three seasons now and it's always fun to see the new seasons young learning to catch fish and interact with the other birds. He was very proud of himself when he caught this fish. Neil.

This is another uncommon, Nationally Threatened Species in Singapore. It lives in the swamp forest, and difficult to find. Thanks

There were several night herons staking out the pond near the Warden's hut in the early morning. This was the only one in the sun. Neil.

This heron was feeding while I was having my latte in the good light we've been getting at last.

This is a first year. Note the yellow-green legs.

Probably a second season bird. I was surprised at the orange legs and eye which are very different from a first year bird. He was having a shake in this digiscoped photo.

I came across a tree with nine night herons roosting in the late afternoon winter sun. There were several juveniles amongst them. This is one of them.

I got into the hide at Mai Po at 5.30am ( I stayed overnight at their facilities) and there were several night herons around in the dim early light. I took several photos but this was the only one where the bird stood still for long enough for the longish exposure of 1/6th of a second.
