black headed gull

This is a juvenile Black Headed Gull on a "Training Flight".

Miffed Black Headed Gull, as i hadn't any chips to throw to it..so decided to be rude & stick its tongue out :)

Black Headed Gulls are wonderful to watch when simply gliding.

Sitting in the middle of the car park at Minsmere

Panic sets in when the chick gets separated from its parents for a few seconds. Unfortunately these Gulls were not very near - so picture quality for all three shots is not up to usual standards.

As for all little chicks, it's not easy to see what this one will grow up to look like.

I can't quite get used to the fact that these are no longer Larus. Scentific names for Gulls used to be relatively easy. I've put this adult in to compare with the little ones to follow.

OK, not Little Gulls, but little Black-headed Gulls.

Although very common it is good to photograph these beautiful birds over water.Taken handheld.

What beautiful birds these are if captured just right in flight.I hope you like this too.

It was trying to catch my bread before the ducks got it.

This Black headed Gull flew round me in circles, as I stood on the boardwalk over the pond at Minsmere RSPB as I was leaving. This was the best of my effort before I got too dizzy! It's a bit noisy in the shadow because I was accidently using too high an iso.

These gulls are often seen on the lake or flying overhead, not so often on land at the edge of the lake like this.

Yet another Black Headed Gull. I particularly liked this one's crossed tail feathers.

When I took this pic I noticed some behaviour I hadnt seen in BH Gulls before.They were diving into the water near the bank where it is shallow.When I say diving I mean they were completely submerged.They would then fly back up and hover just above the surface picking bits of it.I came to the...

In front of West hide Minsmere Suffolk.

Thought I'd try this as a monochrome shot on the grounds that the colour version hardly looks any different!

I wanted to photograph this gull to show that's is colour is really a Mud-headed Gull!

These birds seem not to know much about ice. They just stand on it and wait for it to melt (ignoring the thawed bits a few metres away!)
