This is an image of the female that bred in Aston-Under-Lyne. Her feathers are very tatty indeed and a hard little worker she was too with her three juvs to bring up.
This male bird sang for many weeks before a female turned up. Three chicks fledged, only one brood. I'd be interested to know if any other black redstarts bred north of Birmingham.
After 5 years getting poor results photographically I am thrilled my luck changed.
Had a walk on Lakenheath Warren yesterday, never known it so quiet, just a few Woodies and Maggies, no small birds showing at all. Hope to get a couple of hours in at Lackford Lakes this morning, so see yall later. One from a beach walk last month here.
A lovely morning here in Hastings, but we still have company here, so its another no birding day for me. I may get out to Rye Harbour tomorrow, fingers crossed. One from a beach walk a couple of weeks ago, this bird just stood watching the fly buzzing around it, and made a couple of...
One from last week. Its not very often I see these birds perched on branches, but caught this one albeit briefly. Early posting for me today, off to Rye Harbour, see yall later.
Sorry about posting pics of the same species, but it was as much as I got from yesterdays beach walk. I spent 45 minutes with this little beauty before I had to leave the area because of the incoming tide. I'm not sure if this is a female, or a young bird, as it just had a single note call...
Well Peeps,
Sorry to say for one reason or another Im not getting out much these days. Had plans on a trip to Rye Harbour today, but the weathers not shaping up to be very nice. Its so windy out there, and some dark clouds are rolling around, so it looks like it could be...
Technically not the best pic of a juve Black Redstart but as its one of the first juveniles born in Wales for over 25 years makes it extra special. This is one of the offspring of the male I have been photographing for the past month.I photographed the female back in April but havent managed her...
Well Peeps,
The Pram Race last night was great, a fine turn out and I think the last pram passed our house about 11-30. The pub opposite was busy again all evening, and the weather stayed fine after a couple of heavy showers during the day. Tonight its the Street...
Hazel took off to Brighton to do her nannying duties yesterday morning, so I was left to entertain Carol our hairdresser from Lakenheath who is with us for Carnival Week. She said shed like to go for a beach walk, so off we set with the Bigma slung over me shoulder and Carol with the bins. We...
I havent had chance to see if this guy is still present this week due to work commitments.I am off to the North Wales coast for a week tomorrow so am hoping he will still be around when I get back.In the meantime I am hoping to do some coastal wader stuff up North so see you all in a week or so.
Just to compare it with the previous one, this is def a juvenile and the main difference I can see is the beak when compared with an adult where the lower mandible and the chin are there is the droop and the colouration is different
Had a great morning today with Tom (Melton) looking for this little beauty I found on my local patch a few weeks ago.The weather was absolutely dreadful with wind and heavy rain but we eventually caught up with him sheltering in a deep gully. This though was taken yesterday morning in much better...
Ron was right extra chores Saturday made up for by a late phone call from Mike. Did I fancy coming up as the Blavk Redstart was syill around, well what can you say to a five O'clock alarm for a chance of a lifer. And yes it was still their, not giving very close views so you can imagine this a...
Bit of a surprise whilst out with the Dog this morning when this guy was singing his head off.He was quite approachable but took the Dog home and came back in the hope he would still be there for some shots.Thankfully he was and I spent about an hour photographing him.Been after one of these for...
