More of record shot that anything special, as she refused to move from her lofty perch on a warehouse roof. Glad I went to see it though, as they're such lovely birds.
These birds were very common.
They seem to like the open wasteland between the hotel strip and the sea/ cliff area - but were also seen in the hotel gardens.
Very difficult to photograph in sunlight.
After several failed attempts to get a decent photo, the sun finally shone, and the bird came within range. Unfortunately, the building site he was inhabiting is surrounded by 7 foot high solid steel walls, and this shot had to be taken through a 2 foot square viewing panel covered with 1"...
Taken at El Rocio Spain This is a fairly large Town with no paved streets it resembles a scene from the American Wild West with streets of Sand and Horses everywhere, Very good for birds and a must visit place if you visit Southern Spain
Male Black Redstarts tend to get all the press.. "stunning/cracking" birds they certainly are but in their own way, the females are equally attractive. And in the case of this lady here, certainly as sociable! Maybe she was just appreciative of my efforts to meet her at her level :)
I have to post my pics and run today. Hazel's daughter has all her girlfriends coming over here to have their Christmas party, and they are taking over my office space. I dont mind, as they are all pretty young ladies in their twenties, and they have asked me to take some pics of them too. So...
I saw a good number of these birds in the Algarve but in Spain they were everywhere this was taken outside our accommodation in El Rocio.
El Rocio is a must visit place when visiting Donana a Town with streets paved with Sand Hitching Rails for Horses outside every House, Horses everwhere...
