The odd Migrant Black Redstart turn up on this part of the Coast every winter mostly they move on quickly this one has been here for almost a week I hope he stays on.
The Black Redstart was still showing well to-day. it has picked a corner of the Beach that has a busy Cafe and hosts the Scottish Seabird centre it's great to see this bird ignore all the people who pass this small area, It just gets on with the job of finding enough to eat.
This turned up on our local patch at the wekend, The Sunshine to-day made it worthwhile trying for a Shot, A very obliging bird posing well but at a safe distance.
Several months ago I promised a male Black Redstart for my gallery, but really I didn't find a proper moment to upload one. But Bernard's Prima Donna Redstart from a few days ago made me think of this other Wagnerian tenor I had in my archives: his thoraxic cage is every bit as good as hers...
I spent many hours monitoring the black redstarts which bred in the centre of Manchester. Three chicks fledged as far as I could tell. Black redstarts are a very rare breeder in the UK and are a protected species. After fledging the chicks made their way to a nearby station and carpark. I...

Apart from some Black Kites flying over Bergerac Airport, Black Redstarts were the only unusual birds to be seen while on holiday in France. I thought they liked the cliffs along the river but was surprised to find this pair at a tiny village while out on a walk one day.
This fledgling Black Redstart is sitting outside my office window right now (photo taken through the closed window). The parents are calling but it's more interested in the glass ands watching me work. House Sparrow just came to check it out and there's a kestrel nest not 3 metres from where...
I went to visit BAPTISTE last weekend in Haute Marne (Champagne region, France). Paradise for birds! Look at this not very shy bird. Very territorial, he does not support other birds of his kind on his territory.
This is the european race "gibraltariensis". The female is more discreet
