Popped up to see the Black Redstart pair that I have been monitoring this Summer and to my surprise they have managed a second brood!Only two chicks have fledged as opposed the first broods three but as they are the only pair breeding in Wales its a fantastic record.
Patience is a virtue, stood quietly watching this bird feed in amongst the gorse as she worked her way through and finally popped out just where I hoped she would, ironically when she did appear she just sat there and posed for quite a while.
This looks like a juvenile to me. Still some yellow on the gape and fairly fluffy! Apologies for lack of quality. Shot through window or else I would have scared him off!
We have had sightings of a pair of black redstarts in Manchester this year but they seemed to have moved on. I have arranged for suitable plants and nest boxes to be placed on the town hall roof in the hope of attracting these rare breeders next year. One can only try.
This is a shot from last...
I havent had much time for Bird photography these past few months as I have been heavily involved in monitoring these guys to see if they will breed as they did last year.Really pleased to say that 3 chicks fledged over the weekend and this one of them. They bred in Wales at this site last year...
