    Black Vulture

Not a very good photo (due to temperature of 30deg C. creating terrible heat haze, even the bird is gaping) but shows the difference between Black and Griffon.

  16. Immature black vulture

    Immature black vulture

I really hesitate to post this unworthy-of-the-birdforum shot but as far as I can tell, there are no pictures of an immature turkey vulture here so here's one until someone posts a better shot. Edited a day later to give it its proper name, immature black vulture.
  17. Black Vulture in flight

    Black Vulture in flight

Another friend from the vulture clan shown earlier. Distinguished from Turkey Vultures in flight mainly by the wing pattern of light vs dark and flatter wings.
  18. Black Vulture

    Black Vulture

There were several vultures fighting over the opossum. One of them waddled across the road in front of our friends and almost became the dessert for the others.

Somebody get me down from here!!!

1/250sec f3.1 shutter priority macro mode My original caption was going to be "I love a big stiff wood", but i wasn't sure if that was universally funny or obscene?
  20. Black vulture

    Black vulture

This black vulture is a common sight where I live. We see them often feeding on roadkill and have to drive carefully to avoid hitting them as they fly up. This was taken with Olympus C-2100UZ with a B-300 telecoverter lens.
