It's funny because I don't have as much luck as my husband catching new birds coming in our garden, but I did see this one fly in. So I readied my camera to try and get a shot when my husband asked what I'd seen. My answer was "probably only a titmouse", but I continued looking. He...
Another example of luck. While we're sitting outside having a beer, Pam points camera and says" it's only a Titmouse". I seen the same thing and thought it was a little bigger and when I looked thru the viewfinder ............. a Blue Grosbeak
True story. I posted a juvenile Blue Grosbeak a couple of days ago, so I knew there had to be adults around, and I've been watching for them.
A very attractive woman, out for a walk, stopped to talk birds, and I showed her some etchings, and mentioned I was looking for a Blue Grosbeak. She...
Perched on a juniper bush below and greater than 150' away with the prairie as a background this is my first sighting. The north edge of this fellows territory.
Didn't have time to get out of the truck yesterday to get into a better position, because there was another male sitting on a tree 15' away and I knew he's going after him, which he did, but not until I got a few shots of him.
Was greeted by this Grosbeak as I went to my new house to check on things this morning. Also seen Purple Martins moving into the Martinhouse I put up a couple of months ago. By the way, this tree has Bluebirds nesting in the Birdhouse. can't wait for the young one later this spring.
Another target bird for this summber. These are migratory, and prefere riparian to open woody farmlands. This bird was taken at the Kern Valley Wildlife Refuge. Used a recorded call to pull it in. Not the best shot I could get; these birds won't pose long and love shadows.
