While visiting Washington DC on Sunday, I was walking through a park and noticed this beauty. With the spring like colors behind it, it just made the bird pop out.
Well Peeps,
Internet still not good, but we did manage to buy some at a pub last night, and I was able to catch up with y'all lovely bird pics. Hope you are all having a great weekend...Later.
I didn't have the camera on burst mode,(which on my camera is mostly useless anyway) and saw this guy coming toward the feeder. So I tried to get the timing right on a one shot chance. It's not perfect because of the cluttered background, but still I like it. lol
Another not quite in focus shot, but one I like. Makes me chuckle. This jay landed so close to me I couldn't zoom back enough to focus properly on him. He gave me this goofy look then took off again.
Was going through some photos and found this one from last spring or summer. This is a young Blue Jay I believe, that has molted its juvenile feathers and is just starting to grow in it's adult feathers. I remember a bunch of these being around the yard and it was so funny. The all had naked...
Shot through the windshield of my van, so not as sharp as it could be. I just couldn't seem to get a sharp focus through the glas!! But I liked the pose. And he knew I was sitting there!
Blue Jay (Cyanocitta cristata subsp. cristata) Sexes similar. Photographed in my backyard in Post Oak. Open manicured area with Post Oaks and one red maple at ca. 101 m (330 ft) elevation. Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, USA.
After some snow shoveling, I took a break and stuck this long handled shovel into the snow. It happened to be near a feeder, and it instantly became everyone's favorite perch. Chckadees, sparrows, juncos, redpolls, even the blue jays, like this dreamy looking one, all took a turn on it!
When a beautiful bird strikes a beautiful pose amongst beautiful surroundings, and you're so happy because you got the shot, until you see that the camera focused on the tree behind the bird, not the bird.....then it's time for a bit of teeth gnashing. lol!
Maybe some carnivorous bird was in the area, or maybe he was just playing hide and seek. I'm not sure, but this blue jay sat deep inside this hemlock tree for quite a while. He looked kind of cute there.
Managed to catch a slightly less disturbing photo of a landing jay here. lol. Unfortunately I couldn't quite nail the focus on these photos. Having a camera with only autofocus, I had to zero in on the feeder, and the jays always seemed to be either just in front or just behind the optimal...
