    Blue Tongue Sking. Local names include Stumpy, Bobtail and Shingleback. They are quite common in gardens and help keep the snail population in check.

    A Blue Tongue Skink (more commonly if erroneously called a Bobtail Goanna around here). Initially thought it was a snake in my backyard - sure glad it wasn't. About 12 inches long, with purple-blue tongue/mouth, can look frightening when they hiss at you but are harmless. (re-post)
