As I headed back to my hotel for the night, I watched several flocks of Brown Pelicans flying north-west into the sunset to wherever their evening "commute" takes them - perhaps Alcatraz? Angel Island? Or the bay and ocean shores in Marin? Not sure where they go for the night, but it...
The mouth of the Russian River pools behind a seasonal sand spit "dam" where it meats the ocean at Jenner. Seals and Sea Lions pup on the beach and that pool is where their pups learn to swim. Pelicans, gulls and cormorants come to use the pool as a fresh-water bath to rinse salt off...
I must have hit a wrong button while carrying the camera, and didn't check before taking this shot. Badly overexposed ... and yet it kinda works ;) Consider it my Saturday Fun shot one day late. Was out shopping yesterday and then at a housewarming party 'til over midnight, so didn't browse or...

Mom and Pop Fishing Industry. Brown Pelicans and Magnificent Frigatebirds mooching. Taken in Bahia Hermosa just off shore from Playa Hermosa, Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica.

I was really taken by the brown pelicans on a recent trip to California.....just couldn't stop clicking away. This was taken at a place were there were hundreds, just hanging out.
Low tide is my favorite time to visit the beach. The rocks are so pretty and there are so many birds poking around in them. It's funny to watch the pelicans navigate their way around ont he slippery rocks and grip w/ their webbed feet.
