    Another "close, but no cigar". I like how the sun has caught the fuzzy body, and I like that she's totally focused on drinking nectar, but then there's that pesky stalk in front blurring the picture. Sometimes blurs work well, but I I find this one distracting.

    I think I may find my competition pic among the ones I took at Milton Keynes last week. The Open Uni campus is virtually a botanical garden. I was mostly indoors at a meeting, but got a couple of sunny hours at the end of the last meeting day. I have three pretty good shots of this bumblebee...

    This plant looks like it's designed to be pollinated by long-billed birds, sunbirds or hummers maybe, but a small hole at the base of the flower allows bees etc. to feed!

    I thought these were two different species having a fight but I've been corrected and they're the same species doing quite the opposite. Still looks quite a dangerous affair though.
