A recent watercolour of the biggest lark species in Europe based on a b & w study I did last April in Extremadura..I know calandra`s pretty well since they breed in high density in the cereal fields close to the village I grew up in Northwestern Greece.
This is the first picture from a Calandra lark I`ve ever done , was my contribution to " Bird illustrator of the year" 1999 of British Birds and has been selected for the cover of the magazine.
The bird has been painted from life , studying a captive bird..
Sent again to work in another University but had to visit you all from here anyway... I can't do without my daily dose of BF gallery! :-O

A singing bird sketched from a video taken last year May
at home in Northern Greece.
It's a pity that I'm able to reproduce only a still image and not the sound of bird's song.
This particular bird was singing there for about 45 minutes!
