Heavy crop. I wasn't set up for birds in flight, grabbed a few shots while it was still there.
Thank you for your comments, stay safe and well, and good birding!

On 3 December, I posted a shot of this bird in the same place, on our substation parapet, looking immaculately groomed. A fraction of a second later, it gave itself a good shake, allowing this last one before flying off. Looking at its rear end, is that grey mass poop, on its way to join the...
Female bird. I wondered if it was carrying the snipped-off stem as material for lining a nest hole. Google gave no clear answer, but while searching I found a paper in the academic journal Current Zoology, which is worth quoting: "The rose-ringed parakeet Psittacula krameri is one of the most...
Extremely heavy crop, fairly extreme sharpening. The shutter speed, aperture and ISO make no sense for a flight shot, but I'd been photographing perched Redwings and there was no time to change things when this Sparrowhawk suddenly appeared in the distance.

Thank you for your comments, stay safe and well.

Thank you for your comments, stay safe and well.

Thank you for your comments, stay safe and well.

Every year these birds arrive here in Inner London in good numbers, and for three weeks or so they seem to be everywhere. Then they vanish, off to find habitat they can settle in for the winter, and I'll see none until the same time next year.
Quote from The Wildlife Trusts: "Classified in the...
On the substation rainwater pool back in January, when there was a good depth of water and a variety of birds chose to bathe there.
Thank you for your comments, and Happy New Year!

One of the resident Carrion Crows taking exception to its airspace being invaded by a Sparrowhawk. The agile hawk easily outmanoevred the crow, but neither was going to give up, and they posed for a series of shots chasing each other around the sky, albeit against the light in overcast...
