  6. Grey Wagtail

    Grey Wagtail

Another shot of Thursday's bird. The white "calling cards" on the substation parapet suggest the bird may have been visiting for some time, perhaps since October. I've only been checking for a few minutes each day. Thank you for your comments, good birding! John
  7. Grey Wagtail

    Grey Wagtail

The rainwater pool on our substation roof is now more extensive, and when I checked yesterday, this much hoped-for visitor was feeding there. Thank you for your comments, and good birding! John

    Rook

On Tuesday my brother drove us to Bough Beech. the first time I'd left home for birding since 2019. Most birds were too distant for photography, but as we were leaving I grabbed a few record shots of Rooks in flight from the car window. Low sun turned some feather edges gold. It was the first...

    Common Wood Pigeon

The same bird as posted on Monday. In that shot, the bird seemed to be sizing me up. In this one, it seems to have decided I was no threat and it could relax a bit. Thank you for your comments, good birding! John

    Eurasian Blackbird (male)

At the substation pool in March (the heavy rain which was forecast recently didn't persist, so the pool's just a puddle at the moment). Thank you for your comments, good birding! John
  14. European Herring Gull

    European Herring Gull

Another shot of the Herring Gull which visited a neighbour's roof in January. The whitish circles on the tiles are lichens, not gull droppings ;)
  15. Eurasian Blue Tit

    Eurasian Blue Tit

On our substation roof in January. It's raining buckets at the moment, and the pool is beginning to fill up. It can be a magnet for birds, fingers crossed for a Grey Wagtail.. Thank you for your comments, good birding! John

    European Goldfinch

From this, and shots of the bird perched, I'm not quite sure it's in the best of health (the head looks a bit of a mess). On the other hand it seems to have been feeding and flying OK. Just possibly it's in very late moult (??). Thank you for your comments, stay safe and well. John
  19. Eurasian Jay

    Eurasian Jay

Taken yesterday. I don't know if it's the same bird I posted on Tuesday, but Jays seem particularly busy with acorns at the moment, presumably stashing them away as winter food. Thank you for your comments, stay safe and well. John

  21. Eurasian Sparrowhawk vs Carrion Crow

    Eurasian Sparrowhawk vs Carrion Crow

Two hours before this was taken, there had been two Crows trying to escort a Sparrowhawk (presumably this bird) out of "their" airspace, but all were gone before I could get pictures. A couple of hours later the raptor reappeared, and hostilities were resumed, allowing a few shots. From this...

    Grey Wagtail

On the roof of our substation last year. So far this autumn, there hasn't been enough rain for a pool to form. Thank you for your comments, stay safe and well. John
