I ended up talking to a couple and didn't take as many as I wanted but I'm going back to make some more shots of this bird. I'm that obsessed. I'm posting some more tomorrow. So far this year I haven't seen any in my yard or in Charleston.
This male Cardinal has for the last 2 days been feeding his youngster in our area. Little does Pops know that when he is not present the youngster feeds himself !! As soon as his father shows up he begs to be fed !
He over powered the youngster not allowing him to show his head while feeding him...
They seem to be together 75% more than before, with the male really deffering to her as to position and of course constantly feeding her..truly fun and interesting to see..
From the sets they take you'd think they did know.
For those of you old enough to remember Rita Hayworth, a movie star in the forties, famous for her over the shoulder "cheescake" shots, this pic may bring back memories!!
Group of 12 Cardinals that were at my feeders and on the ground below them on February 16th, 2007. Some of the females on the ground are hard to see. There were others outside of the frame of the picture, but couldn't get them in the picture without making it too hard to see any of them.
I was so happy when I saw this male cardinal feeding at the feeder with the snow falling. What a great scene; but then to see him fly to his mate and her ask for a seed and see him give it...wow! (I just noticed that I have a second shot with more of each bird).
I have been desperately trying to get a half way decent picture of a cardinal all summer. Today, he posed for me and I was quite close. Usually, the moment I show up the cards fly away. I chose this picture because his mouth was opened and I thought it was different enough to be interesting.
