The next morning found June and me back down at the beach, but this time we didn't go into the hide as the tide was well in.
Instead we went to Rushy Point just along a bit; this is a nature reserve where the area is protected for the wading birds.
First to come into range of my camera was...
... he is big!!
We'd now mover a bit further along the headland and walked down to a look-out over Ocean Beach. A really beautiful sight.
We were pretty high, but I was able to pick out a Caspian Tern sitting on the sand. This is a huge crop!
Sadly, the smaller birds weren't so easy, pictures...
.... well a month actually, since I last saw a Caspian Tern, my last day with Ken when we went to Bribie Island on the 4th October!
So I must say it was lovely to be reacquainted with them here. Terns are one of my favourite species.
Out in the middle of the water was a whole collection of birds on a wee strip of mud.
This included the main star for me Caspian Tern, along with Royal Spoonbill, Pied Stilt and Grey Teal.
A Caspian Tern being very calm. Perhaps pacific, or even a pacifist?

Thankfully the Black Point Wildlife Drive at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge was not shut down today. We saw this magnificent Caspian Tern there.
