A painting of a cattle egret in breeding plumage. I really enjoyed painting the different shades of white and having this elegant bird standout against the dark background.
Cattle egrets are apparently still considered rarities in Switzerland. This was one was doing the Birdy Song. I tried to sit quietly so that it would come and do it near me but I just kept getting surrounded by cows.

This is an excellent time for birding in Cuiaba. All city parks are full of variety of species. The dry season is into its 4th month and the birds are looking for a place with a bit of water.
There's a record of these birds breeding at a local wildlife park where they nested on top of an enclosure where captive birds were breeding. Hopefully they are breeding elsewhere as there were at least three birds in this plumage on the farm.
