Cattle Egret -
These birds stay close (as in ontop and all over) to the water buffalo to feed on the disturbed insects that are around the beasts.
This bird is not in breeding plumage - pity - otherwise it would be in a lovely rufous buff on most parts of the body.

Badaan Farm's irrigators are full of Cattle egrets at this time of the year. They wait until the water spray disturbs insects etc. then they dive in for a feast.
These guys have been raising their young in our neighbor's trees over the summer. The chicks are very noisy when hungry. This one has been hanging out in our yard and seems to have a problem with his right wing. We are hoping he can escape the neighborhood cats.

Usual perch at the reserve for these herons: to get them a bit closer, this time I tried to whistle gently to the horses, but my "pishing" technique did not work that well ;) - the horse instead showed well its "pis*ing" technique...

I was observing it standing still, then rapidly moving a few steps onwards, possibly chasing insects - given the short distance, it was not easy to frame the whole figure
You can see these birds almost all over the world. I've seen them in Africa, Central and South America and even in the Netherlands.
