Black capped chickadee by waters edge, hidden amongst the brush.

Most of the pictures I took Friday were harshly lit by the afternoon sun, but this one turned out okay. I have to say, though, I can never get chickadees eyes in a way that I like.

The bird baths in my backyard have become very become very popular lately. We haven't had rainfall since early August.

Another Montana bird. This was the only Mountain Chickadee I saw on the trip.

This little guy was very tame and allowed me to get a few snaps as he ate some food. Notice he has a more bearded look Kind of a unshaven look

I think the chickadees around here are carolinas, but I'm not sure. They certainly look different than the black-capped ones I see in Michigan. Hopefully I'll have some pictures of those later this summer!

I think this is a carolina chickadee, but here in St. Louis we're right on the edge for black-capped or carolina. It certainly has duller sides compared to the ones I saw in Michigan, which had very brown sides and more distinct black on their heads.

Just throught it was kinda different with the backlighting and the blurr...

I'm having a lot of luck with chestnut-backed chickadees. This one was too distracted by food to mind me being so close.

A Black-capped Chickadee in my alder bush in my front yard. It was one cold day :)

This a regular at my feeders. Almost tame...

I know this is supposed to be a Carolina Chickadee, but it sure has many of the characteristics of a Black-capped.

Taken on my visit to California last summer not far from where I used to hike and camp as a young lad.
