Well I wasn't sure about this little fella I originally plumped for juv Chiff Chaff and that seems to be the opinion on the ID forum.This is my first ever image of a Chiff Chaff never got a decent image of them before.
I got a couple of fuzzy photos of a chiff chaff hiding amongst bracken by some woods on the coastal trail atop Constitution Hill, one halfway decent one of it flying off, then turned around and saw this juvie (also chiff chaff?) looking incredibly cute. In a compromise between even cuter poses...
First one I've seen this year. Was showing well enough, but insisted on hiding behind the largest piece of timber available. In the only shot where it was in the open, its back half was in sun, front half in deep shade - otherwise it would have been a cracker, as it was beak wide open, singing...
Quite a few chiffchaff singing today. Usually they stay high in the trees but I chased this one through the undergrowth and found him much lower down. This was my first sighting of the season.
