Chipping Sparrow Smaller, trimmer, and shorter tailed than a Song Sparrow; slightly larger than a chickadee.

This little bird was feeling chipper this afternoon.

Seen Oct. 5th. I think they have migrated since then, haven't seen any since.

Haven't seen a whole lot of these guys this season.

First Chipping Sparrow of the season. It refused to perch on a tree branch or some other picturesque spot, and remained on the ground the whole time. I complain about this every year! lol

Pretty among the pretty

I've always loved the look of these small and neatly feathered sparrows. I've had a couple in the yard for the last few weeks but in very sparrow-like fashion, they preferred ground feeding. Finally got a shot of one in a tree.

These guys are starting to use our bird feeders.

Chipping Sparrow (Spizella passerina subsp. passerina) Sexes similar. Just south of the Bell County Expo Center, Belton, Bell County, Texas, USA. A crossroads of the Edwards Plateau and the Blackland Prairies Vegetational Areas. Oak/juniper/hackberry woods ca. 183 m (600 ft) elevation.

One family nested in the Holly bush this year.
