This fellow was spotted in Haleakala National Park on Maui at about 8000 feet elevation. Chukars are part of the pheasant family, which are plentiful on Maui, but Chukars are not seen that often. He seemed quite willing to pose for the camera.

In Capitol Reef National Park near Torrey, Utah, I was surprised to see adult Chukar partridges running toward slow-moving cars, teaching their progeny how to beg from the passing tourists. They came so close to our car that I had to switch to an older zoom lens that includes a "macro" function.
