    Similar but different

Back at home in the garden were a Common Bronzewing and Laughing Dove - they look quite pally, don't they. The sun was at just the right angle to produce some very pretty iridescence on the wing of the Bronzewing, and that's how he gets the name of course.

After that run along the river we then more-or-less followed it south back to Adelaide. When we hit the Adelaide Hills, we followed another river down a steep windy road and called in at the Gorge Wildlife Park. Peter's idea was to enable me to see some of the species that weren't in the areas...
  5. In the shade

    In the shade

The sun was really getting low now, and behind the trees; this meant the drive where this Common Bronzewing was pecking about was completely in the shade. Sadly that meant there was now pretty wing patch to see!!

    Early morning light

First thing in the morning found a Common Bronzewing sitting on the fence. What beautiful colours in that wing; such pretty pigeons

Back at home after a lovely afternoon out, here's a Common Bronzewing really showing off that beautiful iridescent patch on his wing, standing just where the light would catch it right.

    Pretty wing

Another bird wondering if he was going to get a chance at the food on the grass was this Common Bronzewing. They're so well named with that beautiful iridescent patch of colours when the sun catches them right, aren't they.

    Colourful guy

We'd now got to the Adelaide Hills and called in at the Gorge Wildlife Park. Peter thought it would be a good idea for me to be able to see some of the species found in areas of Australia that I wouldn't be going to, so we had a good look round. This was the only place I saw Dingos, now a...
  13. A headlight?

    A headlight?

The evening shadow was now completely covering the drive and that's where this Common Bronzewing decided was the best place for his photograph. However, he must have forgotten that I needed some sun on him to show his beautiful colours in the wing!! Oh well. Though his forehead does shine...

    Pretty colours

The next morning, the first visitor to the garden, even before breakfast, was this rather handsome Bronzewing. I can't believe how beautiful that wing patch can look in the right light. I had to take this through the window so as not to frighten him off. The first one I'd seen since Bowra.

    Common Bronzewing

A frequently seen bird in the bush around Adelaide - always nice to catch the sun reflecting on its iridescent plumage.

    Common Bronzewing

The Bronzewing is so named because of the colour of the underwing, which is next to impossible to photograph!
