common chaffinch

  1. A first for me

    A first for me

I've never noticed this happening before but this would appear to be a young male Chaffinch just beginning to get his adult colouring, judging by the blue feathers on his neck.
  2. How he relaxes

    How he relaxes

That worried looking Chaffinch I showed you the other day, then showed me how he relaxes... he needs a cigarette!! Happy New Year everyone. I hope you all have a wonderful 2025.
  3. Worried

    Worried

This Chaffinch seems to be very worried about something. If I ever knew what it was all about I've long forgotten I'm afraid.
  4. Mainstay

    Mainstay

Chaffinches are just about the main species which visit our furthest away feeders. I can't work out how many pairs there are. They seem to be very fond of their food anyway!
  5. Considering

    Considering

It seems to me that this Chaffinch is thoughtfully tasting a seed to see if it is really to his taste. I'm surprised no-one got the species in my picture yesterday... it was the Marsh Harrier which I showed you just a week before, in the same tree. I'd not zoomed in so much though LOL.
  6. Battle for top dog

    Battle for top dog

Now it's a Great Tit wanting to beat up a male Chaffinch, for feeding rights over the peanuts (or the seed which I put on the shelf!
  7. If I time it right....

    If I time it right....

.... she may not notice!!? A cheeky Blue Tit, photo-bombed my attempts to get a picture of a Chaffinch, on a feeder at Kinnordy reserve! Saturday Fun,

    Common Chaffinch (m)

I know these are common for many of you, but this is the first time this Connecticut boy has had the pleasure of spotting chaffies in the wild. Woo hoo, an oddly exciting lifer. :)

    Common Chaffinch

Another introduction from the UK in 1862 and common everywhere.

    Chaffinches and sprouts (Fringilla coelebs)

During the spring migration also the Chaffinches (Fringilla coelebs) stop on the poplars to eat the shoots, unlike the brambles they are more dynamic and often go to the ground.
  15. Common Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs)

    Common Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs)

Calm in the days of the Coronavirus. This Chaffinch female (Fringilla coelebs) remained in the same place for practically an hour. A video that conveys her calm, with nothing, and nobody to disturb her.

  20. Common Chaffinch

    Common Chaffinch

A very common species, but while I'd see them from my windows nearly every day in the 1980s, they've vanished in recent years. This is an extremely heavy crop from a 2019 shot at another location (I haven't seen the species at all since, but one lives in hope!). Thank you for your comments on...

    Where's the ladies then

A very handsome looking guy sitting watchfully in the trees, but no sign of the girls. Just hope he's got a lady friend on a nest somewhere.

    Colorful

Common Chaffinch, however humble the name might seem, is one of the most colorful birds we have in Norway.
  25. You spoke?

    You spoke?

She was heading for the tube feeder that I'd re-positioned to the 'new perch' branch. Couldn't resist that inquisitive look! TTTW
