    some walks produce very little but only 10 minutes into a stroll at the Devil's Punchbowl and there's a Crossbill rooting around the mud. Stunning views of the hills and autumn colours too.

    ... and a whole flock of crossbills did come for them, right outside my 3rd story window. This was actually the second day I saw them there. The first day I'd left my camera at home. This day was foggy, and the office windows needed washing, but with some post-processing I managed to get a dozen...

    The Crossbills were waaaay high up in the conifers that day. I couldn't even tell what they were through the 400 lens, not until I got the shots up on screen and cropped them massively. Most were too blurry, but this one somehow survived the cropping process.
