    Common Merganser Female

Since people seem to enjoy seeing one of these birds out of the water, here's another shot of her. I got three shots of her. The cartoon pose one, one where her head is turned in perfect profile but she is out of focus, and this one. Her beak is pointed right at the camera so you can't see many...

Went for a walk the other day and saw this female Merganser walking back and forth on the other side of a large stream. I grabbed this shot just before she took off. This pose makes her look like a Loony Toons cartoon character, lol

My hair is just a mess!

I caught this female Common Merganser preening at my local lake. Their crest always looks like it could stand some hair spray.

What I think is a Common Merganser mom leading her kids to somewhere. This family was about 200 feet away on the other side of a river, so full zoom and a heavy crop to get this. Nice family moment.

    Common Merganser

Went for a walk this morning, and as I crossed a bridge over a small river, I noticed this flash of black and white on the water. Turned out to be a merganser. According to a bird book I have, they are quite a common bird, but I can honestly say this is the first one I ever remember seeing. It's...

Finally starting to see a little more open water on local rivers and with that seeing more waterfowl. This male Common Merganser was one of several along with a few rafts of Goldeneye and Ring-necked ducks.
