Just caught one on their new favourite perch, while it was snowing. Through the window as usual, and the odd flake of snow has got in the way of the bird.
Another from yesterday. This had either just stopped, or was about to start, whistling. I've lost count of their many different contact calls, sometimes you need to see then doing it to believe that it's a Starling making the noise. Taken through window as usual, and using TCON 1.7, which is why...
Just took this through the window and realised that I've not uploaded a Starling for a while. I think I've got a few months to go before I've uploaded a whole year of plumage changes.
I don't think there's much change in the plumage on this one, but the bill is turning more yellow.
One from the other day. They are often in the trees, but the light is really awkward or lacking, so I don't often get decent pictures. Through the window as usual.
I've loads to do ATM, so not posting much. I thought I'd add a Starling from yesterday to my gallery, to add to the stages of moult I've tried to show. This one looks pretty similar to the last I've uploaded, but notice the bill is starting to turn yellow.
Taken through the window as usual.
Well it's supposed to be sunny today, so I thought I might get some decent pictures. Instead it's raining so hard that my garden is flooded.|=)|
So I thought that I'd post this one from the other week.
I took about 20 shots of this from different angles, but I just couldn't avoid the reflection. You can see a sort of white patch on the bird, which is the reflection through the window.
Anyway, I liked the eye on this so I've uploaded it.
I hung a fatball from one of the trees yesterday, for the Tits. I thought if I put it away from the other feeders, that they might get more chance to feed without the Starlings bothering them.
Within 5 minutes the Starlings were fighting over it.|=)|
The light is very awkward in my trees, so even though there are birds in them, I can't get decent pictures often. This picture is a bit noisy, and taken at 1/30th second hand-held, but I like the pose.
Another from yesterday. Looks like this is almost at the end of post juvenile moult. The only brown I see is on the wings, and there's not much of it. Through the window as usual.
I'm giving the Jays a rest for a bit, and I managed to get some more Starling shots. This image makes me dizzy, I can't work out what I'm looking at. The head, eyes, and bill are wrong. It may have moved as I took the picture, but the more I stare the less certain I am. Through the window as usual.
Common Starling looking rather odd; I seem to get a lot like this. I thought it was when they were wet, but it's not been near the bath yet. (through the window, as usual)
I was checking through my pictures this morning, I must have missed this one. It must have been taken through a clean section of the window, as it's a little sharper than usual. I've uploaded it as I think it shows the colours quite well.
And this is the picture taken by my little daughter Francesca, 9-years old, with her camera. I'm trying to educate her to appreciate nature, and birds in particular. And photography.
This is another picture of the starling.
Ps: greetings to all of the members of this forum and thanx for the warm welcome you have given me yesterdays!
Few days ago a small flock of common starlings came to feed on a kiwi tree in the neighbours' garden, right in front of my room. It's rather uncommon to see them in our area but the ripe kiwis hunging on the unattended tree were too inviting! The little birds were very fearful and flew away at...
