I don't like to upload different crops of the same picture, but I'm not sure which I prefer with this. I uploaded the full frame recently, but this is the first (of many) crops that I tried. Don't worry, I won't upload the other crops|=)|
Well I've tried about 12 different crops on this, but I've given up trying to decide which was best, so it's full frame.|=)|

This tern and its mate were nesting in a small, shallow depression atop a large boulder that emerged from the waters of Mooseleuk Lake in the northern Maine wilderness. The photo shows one of the birds stretching atop the same near-shore boulder. The bird reminds me of a ballet dancer.
Not sure what will happen with some of these at the Reservoirs this year. There's Tern Rafts on a number of the Reservoirs, and the Terns use them each year for nesting. One of the popular rafts has been taken over by a pair of Lesser Black-backed Gulls, and despite being mobbed by at least 6...
Never thought I'd manage a shot of a Tern in flight but the extremely strong winds helped me out. The Terns would fight hard to make their way up the reservoir, against the gale, making their progress very slow (and thus possible to photograph, just). They'd reach the end of their sortie and...
It is great to see the Terns returning again. There were Common, Sandwich and Little Terns at Minsmere on Saturday. I just need to work out how to photograph them now. Ron
